I’ve been asked a couple of times to make an mp3 available of the iPhone video I made last year. You can download it straight from this blog post below in the embedded Soundcloud widget. Mmmmm, widget.
Jay Stansfield – Twelve songs in Twelve days
February 5, 2010I’ve only just started listening to this, I’m 40 seconds into the first tune, I know it’s going to be amazing, I don’t know how long it’s been up, I’ve only just found Jay Stansfield on Soundcloud. If you don’t like it, or if it doesn’t inspire you to make something, you can spit on my back the next time I’m walking away from you.
Tokyo 2005 – Parsed
January 26, 2010I just finished browsing Samuel Qwok’s Soundcloud, there’s some lovely music on there, all free too mind, get your Pea all wet and get over there with your Earballs open.
His Longford Squire project reminded me that I did something similar a decade ago, it was the ‘original’ Tokyo 2005 project, and it was born about 35 seconds after Chris Cheetham introduced me to Stars of the Lid.
It’s all Glum ambient guitar music, it’s hardly going to win any popular music prizes but it’s quite nice to fall asleep to and it was nice for me to revisit it if only to see how painfully alternative I thought I was when I was 25.
It’s up at Soundcloud, you can download the tracks if you’d like to fall asleep to them, it’s kind of what they were meant for in the first place.

DRUMMER WANTED – Laughing Gravy – Prog Rock for Idiots
January 14, 2010Here are a couple of pictures of the embryonic beginnings of my new band. The guitar is a Black Tokai SG, expertly discovered as part of a grand eBay haul by my good friend and business partner, Mark Tolle. The keyboard set up comprises of a genuine Hammond Organ, a Jen SX1000 analogue monosynth (we have two of these, I’ll be playing the other) and a generic digital Rhodes Piano.
The band so far is myself and my long term musical wingman, Steve Wilson, overlord of The Bunker studio in Ashton Under Lyne, and my newest best bass playing pal, Dave Molynuex of 80’s popsters ‘Explained Emma’. I’m not sure Dave has a clue what he’s letting himself in for but as soon as we’ve found a suitable drummer we’ll be churning out some filth. We’re kinda going for an Early Genesis meets, Yes, meets, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Queens of the Stoneage…. Or as Steve Wilson put it to me..
“The James Taylor quartet meets Zep while having a pint of mild with Genesis and a spliff with Bootsy Collins and Sly Stone, while wearing a diamond star halo on the way there”. Everything is in place so all we need is a drummer. We have a permanent rehearsal space, a drum kit that’s permanently set up, all you need to bring is your smokes and sticks, oh and we have more recording gear than you can flood a toilet at. So If you know your 9/8 from your paradiddles and you live in or near Manchester and fancy having your banter and music muscles massaged for a while you can contact me on 07872 968 125.

iPhone Music Apps – 2?
January 13, 2010I’ve been keeping tabs on the iPhone Music Apps music video I created in August. It’s turned out to be rather handy in generating automatic traffic, fortunately (for my hippy side) I haven’t exactly been cashing in on that traffic. The video is still generating around 200 hits a days mostly via youtube search traffic, top keywords are ‘iphone music’ and ‘iphone music apps’. These are great keywords to appear on the front page of YouTube search for.
Here’s the video if you somehow managed to avoid my spamming in August
So the plan is to shake off my hippy alter-ego and have a wee crack at some good old capitalism, I’m working on a ten track album of tunes all made in exactly the same way as the one below. For those of you that managed to avoid my explanation of it in August it involves setting up a camera, filming myself playing a bunch of notes and drums on my iPhone then slicing each of those individual notes up in some video editing software (I use Final Cut Pro), naming and cataloging each note and hit then eventually writing a piece of music with those tiny jigsaw pieces.
Yes, it takes AGES, but it’s really good fun, it stops me getting drunk and if I manage to make ten tracks using the same method then maybe those videos and the story itself will generate a little more traffic which I can then direct to iTunes where the ‘album’ audio only version will be offered for sale.
This is my first post via posterous.com by the way.
Bankhall Conference 2009 – Build Timelapse
November 18, 2009My company, KNP Video were onsite at Wembley Stadium last week to shoot comprehensive coverage of a financial services event taking place there. Here’s a 1 minute timelapse video of the build on the day prior to the event shot in the Great Hall.
Dark Days, Timeline Music Video
November 15, 2009Another video made by mangling pieces of video at frame-level. I’ll post a little more info on it in a couple of days.
Coming soon….
November 13, 2009
It’s funny how things tend to go tits up all at the same time, we’re having a real run of shitty luck here at home and some extremely serious health issues (not mine) have rocked our routine and game-plan to the core. I won’t go into any detail here, if you know me well enough to approach me I don’t mind talking about it.
As a result of what’s been happening I’ve had little or no time to do any work, things are piling up and I’m struggling to get through everything if I’m honest.
I am however quite close to finishing a new video, it’s another timeline music video, music created from snippets of video within the timeline of Final Cut Pro. The main bulk of the audio comes from 2 bars of the ever hardy Amen Break, interspersed with a bunch of screen captured video via Native Instruments Reaktor.
Here’s a few screens, it should be finished in a week or so as I can only really justify working on it for half an hour at a time. Keep checking back, it’s gonna get censored yo.
